Mike
Wood
Mike, 31, has been guiding for ADG, Inc. for 6 years. He started working
in Alaska in 1991, as a mountaineering instructor for the National
Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). Those thirty-day courses allowed
him to see a huge area of the Alaskan mountains in the last nine years,
and gain plenty of insight into the variabilities of climbing in Alaska.
Mike has also been pursuing his own personal climbing in earnest,
from Mt. Sanford and Drum in the Wrangell-St. Elias, a 210 mile dog
sled/ski traverse of the Alaska Range, and a remarkable two day ascent
of the Cassin Ridge on Denali. He spends as much time in the mountains
as possible. Mike lives in Talkeetna, and is spending the winter doing
research for a new book on Alaska's Mountains. |

include skiing the Wickersham Wall of Denali, the Sultana Ridge of
Mt. Foraker and Carpe Ridge on Mt. Fairweather. Tyson has traveled
to China on various mountaineering trips. He is a dedicated full time

High School, and he is now a student at the University of Alaska,
Anchorage studying Outdoor Education. When he was 18 years old Matt
and a friend started a month long journey from the road near Matt's
house, up and over Denali and out to Wonder Lake. This is a rarely
accomplished approach and climb and an incredible success for someone
so young. Since then, Matt has spent years climbing notable routes
in Alaska and New Zealand. Besides mountaineering, Matt enjoys cross
country skiing, telemarking, rock and ice climbing and fly fishing.

Kirby
Spangler
Kirby,28, has a deep appretiation for the outdoors which began at
an early age in the north woods of Wisconsin. When Kirby was 10
years old he and his father began taking trips "out west,"
to the mountains. These trips came to an apex in 1989, when they
rode their bicycles from Missoula, Montana to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.
That
journey began what has become a life devoted to exploration ans
adventure. Following the trip, Kirby entered the University of Oregon.
He eventually earned a degree in geography, but the most important
lessons were learned during the weekends, on the summits and crags
of the Oregon Cascades. After graduating, Kirby began his career
as a mountain guide on these very peaks. Kirby has since returned
to Alaska many times, and has been guiding on the mountains and
rivers here for the past three seasons.
Through
his work, Kirby enjoys sharing with others the landscape that
originally inspired him to pursue a career in guiding.
